V naší cestě historií drum & bassu pokračujeme i v únoru, tentokrát jsme v roce 1994, kdy už začíná být jasné, že se rodí nový, dosud neslýchaný žánr elektronické taneční hudby. Jedním ze stěžejních milníků je dozajista vznik labelu Metalheadz 💀 Tohle ikonické vydavatelství je neodmyslitelně spojeno se jménem Josepha Clifforda Price, vystupujícího pod pseudonymem Goldie. Nebyl na to ale sám, do procesu v začátcích labelu byly zapojené i Kemistry a DJ Storm. První releasy byly v režii legendárních producentů jako jsou Doc Scott nebo Peshay.
Dál se rozvíjely i labely zmíněné v minulém článku – Moving Shadow v té době reprezentovala jména jako Blame & Justice, Dead Dred, Deep Blue, DJ Trax, E-Z Rollers, Foul Play nebo Omni Trio; Andy C dál budoval RAM Records jak vlastní tvorbou, tak s releasy od jmen jako Randall nebo Shimon; své druhé album „Parallel Universe“ vydali na Reinforced Records 4hero; začal o sobě dávat vědět Remarc a obecně scéna exponenciálně rostla 💪
Pořád ale žánru vládly pomalejší tempo, ameny, těžké basové linky a jungle zvuk, jehož obvyklou temnější polohu ale pomalu začali někteří producenti opouštět. Jejich cesta směřovala ke klidnějšímu, soulful zvuku, který už mnohem víc odkazoval k jazzu a funku 🎹

Our journey through the history of drum & bass continues in February, and this time, we’ve arrived in 1994. By now, it’s becoming clear that a new, unprecedented genre of electronic dance music is being born. One of the pivotal milestones is undoubtedly the creation of the Metalheadz label 💀. This iconic imprint is inseparably linked to Joseph Clifford Price, better known as Goldie. However, he wasn’t alone—Kemistry and DJ Storm were also instrumental in the early days of the label. The first releases came from legendary producers like Doc Scott and Peshay.
The labels mentioned in the previous article continued to develop as well. At that time, Moving Shadow was represented by artists such as Blame & Justice, Dead Dred, Deep Blue, DJ Trax, E-Z Rollers, Foul Play, and Omni Trio. Andy C continued to build RAM Records, both with his own work and with releases from names like Randall and Shimon. Meanwhile, 4hero released their second album, Parallel Universe, on Reinforced Records. Remarc began making a name for himself, and overall, the scene was growing exponentially 💪
The genre was still dominated by slower tempos, amens, heavy basslines, and jungle sounds. However, some producers were gradually moving away from the usual darker tones of jungle. They were heading towards a calmer, more soulful sound, heavily influenced by jazz and funk 🎹
